About the Program
First established in Sher Shah in January 2000, the Child Development Center (CDC) is the primary operating unit of CLEP. In order to provide an accessible educational facility catered to the unique needs of working children, the CDC is open 12 hours daily for seven days a week and there are no tuition fees. The admission process to the CDC is fairly simple. Essentially, any boy or girl between the ages of 6 and 15, expressing an interest in the program and visiting the center for more than 15 days is eligible for admission.

Learning Methodology of the Program
The Child Development Center (CDC) has devised and designed a learning framework that aims to foster the natural love for learning, curiosity and exploration in every child. Learning corners have been established in the classrooms for each of the multiple intelligences. Each corner is equipped with exciting resource material that is developmentally congruent and intellectually stimulating for the children at the CDC. The children are also guided to understand, care about and to act upon core ethical and moral values such as the love for self, family and others, respect for culture and care for the environment.

Health Education
The Child Development Center (CDC) provides free-of-cost health interventions. The students are screened for infectious diseases, vaccinated for Hepatitis B, given de-worming treatments, tested for visual acuity and provided oral health care. Children with serious ailments are also referred to partner hospitals and specialized doctors.

Educational Entertainment
CDC pays special emphasis to merge entertainment along with education. It ensures that the learning and teaching process at CDC remains entertaining enough to retain a child’s interest while also being educational. This includes:

- Audio/Video sessions at the center. Children are shown educational movies which are a great source of learning.

- Sports Activities. It is necessary that children get some time to enjoy a clean physical environment where they can breathe in fresh air and be at ease. CDC also gives special emphasis to sports activities for healthy development.

- Educational Field Visits. Children are also taken to field visits so that they are apprised of the local culture and heritage. Recreational visits are a source of great information and entertainment.

- Events based learning. Children’s skills and talents are also appreciated in the program. Several events are arranged in which children present tableaus to exhibit their aesthetic skills. This is also a means to boost their confidence and self-esteem.

- Activity based learning. Creative arts and crafts hold pivotal importance at the center. Crafts made by children have been exhibited at various carnivals and have been greatly appreciated by all.

Computer Education
For children to be at par with the world it is essential that their technical skills are nurtured. British Council donated computers for the children of CDC so that they can be taught the basic computer skills that are crucial for learning in the current age of technology.

Library Education
A small library has also been set up at the center which has books especially catering for the children studying at the center. Out of the basic academic exercise that students have to go through at the center some time has also been designated for library so that children have time where they can read and learn at their own leisure
