- Outcomes of PEC strengthening
Strengthening the capacity of the PEC is the most important aspect of the Fellowship Schools Program. Many steps are undertaken during the process of school establishment and management to provide formal and informal training to the PECs. These include the:
- Facilitation of informal discussions with the PEC regarding their responsibilities,
- Lending encouragement and assistance to identify and address weaknesses in existing practices,
- Visiting schools with the PEC to provide field based training in monitoring techniques,
- Periodically organizing sessions and seminars on administrative and financial management techniques, and organizing workshops and reviews to create better systems for collaborative implementation.
These efforts have resulted in the establishment of community managed schools with sound financial and management structures, registered with the Department of Education, imparting quality education, and making independent decisions for the benefit of the community and its children. These PECs are also able to liaise with government agencies, civic bodies and citizen sector organizations for school improvement.
