The Village Education Committee (VEC) is the foundation of the Community Supported Schools. Consisting of parents of the students enrolled in the schools and other community members, the VEC plays the role of managers for the strategic planning of day-to-day affairs and also develop policies, thereby ensuring a sustainable prospect for the schools. Members from the community are identified to form the VEC and capacity building exercises are undertaken by the Foundation to cultivate skills needed to run and develop the school. Members of the VEC require the skills and motivation to initiate and sustain projects for the development of their community in general and education in particular.
The Community Development Network (CDN) is an umbrella organization of the VEC and is responsible for monitoring the performance & school development activities. The funding provided by SEF is received by the CDN which is then channeled towards the VEC. CDN is responsible for the infrastructure development and overall management of the school. SEF has worked towards equipping the CDN in areas of human resource development and information communication technology.
Learning Methodology at the Community Supported Schools
The Community Supported Schools Program is designed around a generic one room – one teacher structure, with 45 students on average. A standard Sindh Textbook Board curriculum is taught in schools but the Foundation is always in the process of initiating projects that nurture children skills and knowledge.
