Programme Goal & Objectives

During the years 2008-2010, the IQEP will be working on enhancing various pertinent and critical education quality areas including eaching and learning, school management and parental and community participation.

Goal

“Improve the quality of education in select government, community-based and low-cost private schools in order to improve student learning and achievement levels.”

Objectives

	To undertake capacity building initiatives for teachers in order to improve the quality of teaching-learning process.
	To develop and disseminate learning materials and teaching aids that can support active child-centred learning.
	To promote an environment within the school that is conducive to learning.
	To engage community stakeholders as part of School Management Bodies for managing and strengthening the schools.

Primary Areas of Intervention

The programme is comprised of a two-tiered implementation approach focusing on service delivery for improving quality education within schools and undertaking research and advocacy for reviewing and advocating for improved quality interventions. Key areas of interventions comprise the following:

	Curriculum enrichment within the school for facilitating an environment that supports children’s curiosity and learning.
	Training teachers to use innovative teaching methodologies in order to transform the role of teacher from that of an instructor to an active facilitator and an equal partner in learning.
	Provision of engaging and interactive teaching aids and learning materials in the classrooms.
	Promoting ECD, health and environment awareness in children to improve their development and achievement levels.
	Strengthening school leadership to ensure continuous improvement of the school environment.
	Integrating strategies that aim at increasing community and parental involvement for creating better enabling environment for children.
	Monitoring and research into the various dimensions of educational quality.
	Advocacy at various levels of government and communities for wider sharing of lessons and replication of best practices.
