| Random Selection of 1200 New IELP Schools Across Sindh |
 |
The Integrated Education Learning Program (IELP) is a recent scheme of SEF which aims to establish greater public private partnerships for increasing access to and improving the quality of educational (primary, elementary and secondary) services for marginalized children across Sindh. With the support of Government of Sindh and implementing partners including NGOs, CBOs, trusts and individual entrepreneurs, IELP will support around 1500 existing and new schools across Sindh.
On 22nd November 2010, selection of 1200 new schools through computerized randomization was undertaken by Honorable Qaim Ali Shah, Chief Minister Sindh and Chairman Board of Governor, SEF at CM House, Karachi. The project will benefit more than 250,000 children and create employment opportunities for at least 4000 teachers in far flung rural areas. SEF will extend financial and technical support to schools in the form of per child subsidy, teachers’ professional development, capacity building of stakeholders, provision of free textbooks and learning material for children, student assessment and school monitoring and evaluation. A collaborative and timely initiative of SEF and Government of Sindh, the schools established under this scheme will play a vital role in providing educational opportunities to the children who have been deprived of formal schooling as a result of the recent floods.
Prof. Anita Ghulam Ali (MD, SEF) gave a detailed briefing on SEF’s portfolio of educational initiatives and highlighted the foundation’s role in ensuring provision of quality education facilities for the under privileged children and communities. Addressing the participants, Honorable Chief Minister applauded SEF’s efforts for the promotion of education in Sindh. Especially lauding its latest scheme (IELP), he stated that it will help the Government of Sindh in responding to many issues faced by the education sector in the province.
Vice Chairperson SEF & Senior Minister for Education, Honorable Pir Mazhar ul Haq, Education Secretary Mr. Alamddin Bullo, Secretary Planning Ms. Naheed Durrani, Information Secretary Mr. Mumtaz Ali Shah and officers of Sindh Education Foundation were also present at the meeting.
In order to determine the current status after the floods, SEF will conduct re-verification survey of the above mentioned selected school sites. The survey will be conducted to examine whether or not the localities, buildings and communities are available for intervention. The selected schools will be awarded to the successful applicants based on the results of the survey. |
