It is liable for conducting training needs assessment in context with learning support areas which need to be strengthened for provision of a conducive school environment for children. It is of crucial importance that before conducting training, research is undertaken so as to identify the areas where training is required. Research has also been an integral component of LSU’s framework of action. From the trainings that it undertakes, the unit gets an acute perception of the reality on ground which therefore forms their basis of research which has been shared on not only domestic fronts but internationally as well. Since children form the primary elements in the learning process, their emotional, learning and behavior patterns form the focus of the unit’s study. LSU also pays significant attention on the holistic development of children including multiple intelligences and Early Childhood Education and Development.

The material developed for children is present in the learning corners in the classroom does not only help cultivate an interest of learning in the child but it also helps him or her develop his hand-eye coordination skills since in discovering the material the child uses his hands and mind. The material is focused to nourish the innate creativity, verbal and logical intelligence and curiosity. Awareness raising material is also present which is developed on the themes of health, values and environment. The unit also prepares training and learning resources for teachers and classrooms including teachers’ guides, learning aids, manuals, resources for self and group learning and supplementary reading material
LSU also facilitates professional development programs for teachers including peer to peer learning, learning circles and networking amongst teachers. The unit also maintains follow up with the communities who have been given training and gives orientation sessions on the material provided to them so that it will undertake wider training and learning support at the grassroots for the replication of the program.
