Learning Support Unit in collaboration with University of Leicester, UK and University of Karachi, Pakistan carried out a survey on emotional, behavioral and learning problems and their influence on academic achievement amongst 5-11 years old school children in Karachi. This research determined specific prevalence of internalizing disorders including mood disorders and externalizing disorders including anxiety, behavioral and conduct disorders amongst children of private schools and government schools, madrassas and community based schools. The research findings are being shared with policy makers in order to influence and develop school environments which provide conducive, emotional and learning environments for children.
The Peace Education Project is going to be implemented at the Child Development Center at Shershah. The training is designed for teachers to apprise them of the fundamentals of the project so that it can effectively implement it in the classroom.
The workshop has the following objectives:
- To introduce the topics and activities those are being covered under peace project for different age groups.
- To make the teachers better understand the content for the proper delivery of concepts and implementation of activities.
- To address the difficulties that the teachers might face during the implementation.
- To make participants aware of the importance of the concept of peace and peace education in the classroom.
- To communicate the objectives of the peace project.
Outcomes:
- To help guide children to appreciate diversity in the respective tribal, cultural and indigenous practices, customs and traditions of people residing in the Shershah area.
- To advocate the importance of fostering an open environment and a healthy atmosphere at the Child Development Centre (CDC).
- To sustain peace project interventions in CDC through its volunteer staff members who will commit to work with the children one day a week during weekends. A head volunteer nominated at the end of project period will report to the child development centre on a weekly basis and provide monthly reports on the progress being made by the children.
