In 1998, the Sindh Education Foundation’s concerns to document its learnings grew and the importance of the processes of monitoring and evaluation increased. Extensive attention was focused on the collection of data from these processed and its utilization for learning, improvement and change. As a response to this need the Monitoring and Evaluation was included in EDRC. Preceding this, a proposal for the activities to be undertaken was developed. Its purpose was to strengthen monitoring and evaluation activities of SEF by devising specific guidelines for the collection and usage of data for all the projects/programs under the portfolio of the Foundation. Though every project had a monitoring system incorporated within its design, there was a dire need to consolidate monitoring activities so that a focused long term monitoring framework would emerge within the Foundation.
The core activities of the unit also involves monitoring along with extending technical assistance to the programs such as conceptualizing quantitative surveys, developing tools for data collection, conducting data collection trainings for the program staff, developing the analysis framework and databases, and out performing statistical analysis. Regular field visits are carried out during the data collection activities, so that the quality of collected data is ensured and a close relation is maintained at the grassroots level (community and schools). The process of dissemination of monitoring results is participatory and meant to benefit all program teams. Click on the link below to see the portfolio of the EDRC under monitoring and evaluation
