The Launch of Early Learning Program
The Early Learning Program was launched by the Sindh Education Foundation on 20th August, 2009. The objective of the Early Learning Program is to improve the standards of education for young children and make education available across Pakistan. Currently, the program is being implemented in districts Tando Mohammad Khan, Badin, Ghotki, Khairpur Mirs and Noshehro Feroz. The launch was inaugurated by Hon’ble Pir Mazhar ul Haque, Senior Education Minister, Government of Sindh, who was the Chief Guest on the occasion. Professor Anita Ghulam Ali (S.I), in her welcome note highlighted the importance of early childhood education in creating a better future for children. A presentation on “A Healthy Learning Environment for Children in the Early Years” was carried out by Mr. Ali Usman, SEF’s training expert. The goal of this presentation was to show that for learning to take place in a classroom provision of expensive aids and materials is not necessary. In fact through creativity a teacher can utilize commonly available and inexpensive materials such as paper, straws, newspaper, wooden boxes etc. can be used to teach children concepts of mathematics, languages and science. Hon’ble Pir Mazhar ul Haque’s in his keynote address emphasized on the importance of providing quality early childhood education in Pakistan and instructed all the EDOs and DCOs of the 5 program districts to provide their full cooperation in implementing ELP interventions across the 150 government schools of Sindh.
