Qualitative Research carried out in schools under IQEP
The ‘Improving Quality of Education Program (IQEP)’ is a pilot initiative that aims to undertake quality interventions in selected primary schools in Sindh. The primary goal of the program is “to improve the quality of education in select government, community and low cost private schools in order to improve student learning and achievement levels”. Monitoring and research into the various dimensions of educational quality is one of the primary areas of intervention under the program. Keeping in line with that objective, a Qualitative Research titled “Impact study of quality interventions undertaken in government schools, low cost private schools and community schools” was conducted in May 2009 which consisted of two phases of data collection. A sample of 12 schools (40%) was selected for the 1st phase of the study wherein classes from kachi to grade 2 were extensively observed with the aim to gauge the impact of interventions being carried out in the schools under IQEP. The second survey was carried out in October 2009 to compare the data of both the phases in order to come to a suitable conclusion. The survey comprised both classroom observations and interviews with teachers. The results of the survey will facilitate SEF’s Learning Support Unit in designing the upcoming teacher training program.
