The Sindh Education Foundation (SEF) and the Citizens Archive of Pakistan (CAP) have partnered for a 3-year school-based intervention which will engage children of primary / elementary grades through educational workshops on Pakistan’s history. The program aims to inculcate civil sense, open mindedness and tolerance in the students by teaching them about how to care for Pakistan and its environment, embrace the diversity of its provinces and people and how to appreciate the various cultures.
The program is planned to work with 1,000 students across 8 government schools (SEF partner schools) in Karachi over the 3 years. The first phase was initiated in October 2010; sessions are conducted by CAP’s volunteers over four working days of the week. This phase will continue to run over the October to December quarter. Through use of interactive approaches and activity materials such as historic photographs, multi-lingual games, role play, essay writing, etc. the students will develop critical thinking skills and be able to appraise the influence of past events on present day situations.
The initiative hopes to create a deeper understanding of historical events so our younger generations are better equipped to find solutions to problems facing Pakistan today. |
