Assessment Orientation & Tools Development Workshop
Sindh Education Foundation is not only committed towards the implementation of effective pedagogies but also towards assessing and evaluating the impact of its teaching – learning interventions. In this regard, an exclusive Assessment Unit has been setup in SEF which will primarily work on designing and administering school based assessment programs. Assessment Unit conducted a Three Day “Orientation and Tools Development Workshop” from the 26th to 28th of October, 2010 at a local hotel in Karachi. The Interactive and participatory workshop was the first of its kind that linked Early Childhood Education and Development assessment approaches in the light of National Curriculum of ECE targeting grade Katchi to grade 2. Among the participants were teachers of PPRS schools from 10 Districts of Sindh, representatives from the media, and local NGOs. The attendees gained insights about Key Learning Areas, Expected Learning Outcomes, Stages of Child Development, Education Assessment, Student’s Achievement Indicators and Different Approaches of Early Childhood Education.

The sessions were activity based to provide trainees with practical experience of designing questionnaires to assess child competencies – Evaluation tools like rubrics, portfolios and checklists were also introduced. The training focused on the development of good quality examination papers based on active learning using assessment approaches that evaluate higher order skills like comprehension, logical thinking and problem solving rather than rote memorization.

The workshop concluded with a candid feedback session and appreciation certificates were presented by Mr. Aziz Kabani (Director, SEF), Mr. Tauseef Lateef (Manager & Head – Assessment Unit) and Ms. Sana Haidry (Coordinator- PPRS) to the participants.
