Building Teachers’ Capacity for Improved Teaching-Learning
As part of the Improving Quality of Education Programme (IQEP) 60 teachers from 30 partner schools in Hyderabad participated in the 5-day training held in January 2009. The training focused on improving competencies of kachi to grade 2 teachers for enriching the quality of the teaching-learning process for children. Through activity based learning sessions, teachers were engaged in understanding child centered approaches and creative ways to integrate themes and subjects through active lesson planning. Key themes included critical thinking, early childhood development and nurturing, health and hygiene and environment. The training methodology was interactive, participatory and centered on discussions, dialogues and activities through which trainees were extensively engaged. At the end of the training an action plan was developed by each school highlighting activities that will be conducted in the classrooms. To implement the training successfully, the SEF also provided learning resources including low-cost no-cost materials, classroom displays, teaching aids, supplementary reading material, books, educational toys etc. to each of the 30 schools.
