In SEF’s ‘Improving Quality of Education Programme’, the focus is to transform the teaching-learning environment in schools through qualitative reforms; thus teacher development interventions are at the very core of program design. To this end, 5-day training was held for 53 teachers of classes 3 to 5 at the Sindh Sports Board Hostel, Hyderabad from the 27th of September, 2011 to 1st October, 2011. The sessions were designed to develop teacher capacity and enhance their ability in effectively delivering the syllabus which in turn will aid in the holistic development of the children. The teachers were familiarized with primary level concepts of subjects such as Science, Mathematics, English and Social Studies. In addition, the participants were oriented on different pedagogical strategies including action research, problem solving, discussion, pictorial illustration, hands on activities and worksheets for promoting activity based teaching in classrooms and to make the subject matter interesting and engaging.
