The Sindh Education Foundation signed contracts with 185 newly selected school entrepreneurs during November 2011. The activity was part of the ‘Promoting Private Schooling in Rural Sindh (PPRS) project’ that was held from the 14th to the 17th of November in Hyderabad. Entrepreneurs from 185 schools across the 10 districts of Sindh were invited to formally sign the contract and begin their commitment to improve quality and outreach of education in the province. These 185 schools established under Round 1 of the 3rd phase of PPRS, are additional to the already existing 300 schools established in Phase 1 and 2 of the Project. Mr. Aziz Kabani (Director SEF) presided the occasion.
To help entrepreneurs handle their newfound responsibilities, orientations sessions were conducted over the course of the 4 days on school management and educational strategy. The focus of the sessions was to enhance entrepreneurs’ capacities to plan, execute and manage school operations. For improved administration and management, school management skills and leadership skills were imparted and the roles and responsibilities of implementing individuals and organizations were highlighted by the trainers. In addition, a manual was developed to aid in the training of the school entrepreneurs and to provide a roadmap to help entrepreneurs improve their efficiency in school management.
The orientation was made highly interactive with structured sessions used in combination with interactive group discussions and activity based exercises over the four days.
With the initiation of the new partnerships, PPRS Project completes Round 1 of the 3rd phase of the Project in which an additional 700 schools are to be selected. 300 new private schools are already operational under this scheme and providing marginalized children and communities of Sindh access to quality education facilities.
