Concurrent training sessions were conducted for the individual and organizational school operators of ‘Integrated Education Learning Program’ across 7 regions in Sindh. These included Hyderabad, Larkana, Mirpurkhas, Sukkur, Dadu and Karachi. The region based sessions from the 1st to 3rd of November, 2011 were attended by respective school operators. 641 operators attended the training out of which there were 369 individuals (running 516 schools) and 2 organizational representatives (president and treasurer) each from 136 newly selected NGOs (with 379 schools) across 23 districts of Sindh.
The Integrated Education Learning Program (IELP) is an initiative of Sindh Education Foundation which aims to establish greater public private partnerships for increasing access to and improving the quality of educational (primary, elementary and secondary) services for marginalized children across Sindh. To ensure efficient and effective management of the schools and maintain the standard of quality education, SEF holds training of the school operators and the teachers on a regular basis.
The focus of the sessions was to enhance operator’s capacities to plan, execute and manage school operations. For better administration and management, school management skills and leadership training was imparted and the roles and responsibilities of implementing individuals / organizations were highlighted. A manual shared with the trainees provided a roadmap to help operators improve the efficiency of school administration. The sessions were highly interactive and structured to include interactive group discussions, activity based exercises and brain storming sessions.
Mr. Aziz Kabani (Director SEF) as well as staff from SEF’s Monitoring Unit, Executive Officers from sub-offices, Government Officials and Education department personnel monitored the sessions to ensure the quality and effectiveness of the training activity.
After successful implementation of the training for newly selected school operators, the training program was repeated for representatives of 120 partner NGOs who are running existing 307 schools in 14 districts across Sindh. The 3-day sessions were held in Karachi on the 15th, 16th and 17th of November, 2011.
