Disbursal of School Subsidies to PPRS Project Entrepreneurs
A 3-day activity was carried out at the SEF’s Head Office in October 2009 where 152 entrepreneurs of the 200 Phase 1 schools of the Promoting Private Schooling in Rural Sindh Project were invited for a meeting. Managing Director, Director, Associate Directors and Senior Manager, Monitoring and Research carried out the meeting with school entrepreneurs. The meeting was held primarily to highlight the field monitoring observations made by the SEF and also to undertake disbursal of subsidies to the entrepreneurs. Aziz Kabani, Director, SEF emphasized that the quality of education needs to be maintained at all time and urged the entrepreneurs to use the learning resources and trained teachers effectively. He highlighted that child-centered learning methodology should be employed in the classroom. Mr. Kabani discouraged over-crowding in classrooms and pointed out that for an effective teaching learning environment, the learning space has to be appropriately constructed, well-ventilated and amply-lit. The students should have a comfortable seating space and learning resources need to be available easily. The availability of drinking water and functional toilet facility on the campus needs to be ensured.  He requested the entrepreneurs that the school sign boards must be installed outside the school premises so that the PPRS project information is easily available to the locality residents. The entrepreneurs were also urged to get their schools registered with the Private Schooling Directorate. Prof. Anita G. Ali stressed that all these factors including teacher training and timely and regular disbursal of staff salaries are pre-requisites for a successful educational intervention. She assured the entrepreneurs that the SEF will ensure swift disbursal of per-child subsidies so that the schools continue to run smoothly and effectively.
