Sindh Education Foundation (SEF), Government of Sindh organized an awareness session on Monday focused on out-of-school children (OOSC) and the importance of girls’ education in connection with the enrollment drive for academic year 2025-26 at People’s School Makli Campus.
The Managing Director of SEF invited officials from line departments including officials from the School Education & Literacy Department, District Education Officers from Thatta and Sujawal, educationists, and more than 50 SEF’ school partners.
A powerful tableau performed by the students of People’s School, which illustrated the cultural and social barriers to girls’ education. The performance conveyed a clear message: education is a constitutional and fundamental right for all, regardless of gender.
Speaking on the occasion, Gahanwer Ali Laghari, Managing Director of SEF, emphasized, “Education remains one of the most powerful tools for dismantling inequality. Access to quality education can transform lives—especially for girls—by helping them break the cycles of poverty and gender bias.”
He noted that in districts like Thatta and Sujawal—areas highly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change—many girls still face significant challenges in accessing education due to societal norms and systemic barriers.
“To bridge this gap, it is critical to ensure that schools are inclusive, resilient, and accessible to all children. Teachers must also be empowered to promote gender equality within classrooms, creating an environment where both girls and boys feel equally supported to learn and thrive.”
Mr. Laghari further stated that the public-private partnership model of the Sindh Government is playing a transformative role in improving education. “While awareness is crucial, real change stems from collective action. Let us work towards a society where both girls and boys have equal opportunities to learn, grow, and contribute to a sustainable and brighter future.”
Speakers including the CEO of Team TakeOne, District Education Officers (Primary and Secondary), SEF’s Director of Programs and Planning Nisar Banbhan and District Head Thatta Ghulam Murtaza Kaimkhani shared their insights and called for prioritizing girls’ education, especially in climate-affected regions like Thatta and Sujawal.
Moreover, he held a detailed meeting with the partners to understand their impact and challenges. They shared their experiences and concerns, and the MD assured them that their suggestions would be considered. However, he emphasized that SEF would be truly satisfied when the partners fulfill their commitments.
Currently, SEF operates 102 schools in Thatta and Sujawal, providing free and quality education to more than 30,000 students.
The MD SEF visited 4 schools including People’s School Makli, , People’s School Thatta, FAS Indus Bright Future Gharo and FAS Decent School Turkish Colony, Thatta. During the visits, he observed ongoing academic activities, interacted with students and teachers, and assessed the learning environment in each classroom.
